Director, Legal Assistance, Strategy and Funding (LASF)
Amanda Shipway has worked for the Department of Justice and Attorney-General since 2009, her fist role with the DJAG was at Victim Assist Queensland where she worked for five years as the Victim Services Coordinator, before moving to her current role as Director, Legal Assistance, Strategy and Funding (LASF) within the Deputy Director-Generals office.
LASF manages significant funding programs worth in excess of $180 million per annum. In managing this funding, Amanda and the team are continuously seeking ways to refine and improve its procurement processes to ensure that funding allocations are made in the most effective and efficient way possible, and that its reputation as leaders in government funded legal investment continues. Amanda is responsible for LASF who have has their core responsibility the allocation and administration of funding to Community Legal organisations (mostly Community legal Centres), Legal Aid Queensland and recently the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (ATSILS).
One of Amanda’s key focus areas in 2020-21 is to work with the Queensland Legal Assistance Forum (QLAF) members to provide strategic leadership and direction for Government. The QLAF forum aims to promote better sector planning, more informed development of Government policy and procedures including contemporary funding allocation policies, and the development of a strategic legal assistance research framework.
In her spare time Amanda enjoys spending time with her two children and her puppy Benny.
